Episode 35: "Perspective Turns Mountains into Hills"

• Don Fessenden • Season 1 • Episode 35

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! 🐾 Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! I’m Monkey, your favorite talking cat, and today’s episode is about a magical power that doesn’t come from a wand or a cape—it comes from your mind.

Our lesson today? Perspective turns mountains into hills.

That means the way we look at a problem can change how big or small it feels. Sometimes, all it takes is a little shift in thinking—and suddenly, something that seemed impossible feels totally doable. And I learned this lesson one day, while staring up at a giant pile of laundry."

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! And I learned this lesson one day, while staring up at a giant pile of laundry.""It was a chilly Saturday, and Mom—our focused and fabulous accountant—asked for a little help.ā€˜Monkey,’ she said,ā€˜can you fold that laundry pile in the living room?’ I walked in… and froze. It was HUGE. I mean, Mount Sock-suvius. Towering towels. A landslide of lost T-shirts. I looked at it and thought, This is too much. Brooklyn peeked in and said,ā€˜Whoa. That’s a LOT of laundry.’ Teddy added,ā€˜Looks like a job for three cats and a forklift.’ Even Olivff stared, blinked, and turned right around. I felt my whiskers droop. There’s no way I can do all this. But then, Dad—our always-patient teacher—walked by with his mug of tea and said something simple:ā€˜Monkey, stop looking at the whole mountain. Just start with one sock.’ Wait… one sock?"So, I took his advice. I picked up one sock. Then another. Then a T-shirt. Then a towel. And something strange started to happenā€¦šŸ”¹The pile got smaller.šŸ”¹I felt calmer.šŸ”¹And I actually started to enjoy the process! Brooklyn jumped in and folded the pillowcases like bones. Teddy organized things by color. Even Olivff returned with perfect purrcision to flatten every wrinkle. Before I knew it, the mountain was a hill. And that hill? It was handled. That’s when I realized—the mountain only looked huge because I was standing too close. All I had to do was step back and change my perspective." What We Learned TodayšŸ”¹Problems can feel overwhelming when we only see the big picture.šŸ”¹Perspective helps us break things down into smaller, doable pieces.šŸ”¹Sometimes all it takes is a shift in mindset to see progress.šŸ”¹With the right outlook, nothing is as scary as it first seems."So here’s my challenge for YOU today: Take aā€˜mountain’ in your life and turn it into a hill.āœ…Have a big assignment? Focus on just the first part.āœ…Cleaning your room? Start with one corner.āœ…Feeling nervous about something new? Think of one step you can take today.
