Episode 38: "Adapting Is Often Better Than Resisting"

• Don Fessenden • Season 1 • Episode 38

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! 🐾 Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! I’m Monkey, your favorite talking cat, and today’s episode is all about flexibility—not just the kind that helps you touch your toes (though that’s pretty cool too)… but the kind that helps you handle change.

Our lesson today? Adapting is often better than resisting.

Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. We get thrown a curveball. A surprise. A change. And while our first instinct might be to fight it… sometimes the best move is to flow with it—and that’s what I learned the day the playground was closed."

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! I’m Monkey, your favorite talking cat, and today’s episode is all about flexibility—not just the kind that helps you touch your toes(though that’s pretty cool too)… but the kind that helps you handle change. Our lesson today? Adapting is often better than resisting. Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. We get thrown a curveball. A surprise. A change. And while our first instinct might be to fight it… sometimes the best move is to flow with it—and that’s what I learned the day the playground was closed.""It was a beautiful Saturday morning, and the whole crew—Brooklyn, Teddy, Olivff, and me—had big plans.‘Playground day!’ Brooklyn shouted, tail wagging. Teddy brought snacks. Olivff packed a blanket and a book. I brought… my megaphone.(Every good playground trip needs announcements.) But when we arrived… the gate was locked. A big sign read: Closed for repairs. We all stared in silence. Brooklyn frowned.‘But I wanted to go down the slide!’ Teddy grumbled.‘I already unpacked the snacks.’ Olivff sighed.‘Guess we should go home.’ And me? I felt it too. Disappointment. Frustration. I even kicked a pebble with my paw. But then I looked around… and something clicked. Across the street was an open field. A few logs. Some shade trees. Tons of space. What if we… changed the plan?""I turned to the group.‘What if… we build our own playground out of what’s already here?’ Brooklyn perked up.‘You mean… adventure style?’ Teddy nodded slowly.‘That could work.’ Olivff blinked.‘As long as I don’t have to swing from a tree.’ We got to work.✅The logs became a balance beam.✅A big stick turned into a limbo pole.✅The picnic blanket? Our very own“quiet zone.” And the megaphone? I used it to announce:‘Welcome to Monkey’s Park of Unexpected Fun!’ We played for hours. And guess what? It turned out to be even better than the playground we were used to. That’s when I realized: If we had just given up, or stayed upset, we would’ve missed out on a whole new kind of fun. Adapting didn’t just save the day—it made it better." What We Learned Today🔹Change can be surprising, but it doesn’t have to ruin your day.🔹Resisting what we can’t control only makes us feel stuck.🔹Adapting opens the door to creativity, fun, and new experiences.🔹A flexible mind is a strong and happy mind!"So here’s my challenge for YOU today: When plans change… look for a new path.✅If something unexpected happens, take a breath and ask,‘What can I do?’✅Be open to trying something different—it might be even better!✅And remember, the best memories often come from going with the flow. Thanks for tuning in to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and remember—you’re strongest when you’re flexible. Don’t just react—adapt. That’s where the magic happens. Until next time, my pawsome pals—keep smiling, keep shifting, and keep making the best out of every moment! Bye for now!"
