We planned a surprise party with all his favorite things:✅Tennis balls.✅Cheese treats.✅A cake shaped like a fire hydrant. Brooklyn and I were in charge of keeping the secret. Olivff made a giant card. Max was rehearsing his birthday song. But me? I was so excited, I could barely keep it in. When Teddy walked in from his walk with Dad—I almost blurted,‘SURPR—’ But I caught myself. Then… he opened the door to the backyard, and I did blurt:‘THERE’S CAKE AND EVERYONE’S HIDING IN THE BUSHES!’ Silence. Then Max dropped his kazoo. Brooklyn groaned. Teddy blinked. Surprise? Spoiled.""I felt awful. I didn’t mean to ruin it. I was just excited. Later, Mom—sat beside me. She said,‘Monkey, I know you love words.
