• Don Fessenden • Season 1 • Episode 53

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! 🐾 Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! I’m Monkey, your favorite talking cat, and today’s episode is all about something that starts with just a few words… but can grow into something pawsitively amazing.

Our lesson today? Conversations open doors to new friendships.

That means every time you say ‘hi,’ ask a question, or share a laugh—you’re building a bridge. A connection. Maybe even the start of a friendship that could last a lifetime. I learned this when I met someone very different from me… and almost didn’t say a word at all."

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! I’m Monkey, your favorite talking cat, and today’s episode is all about something that starts with just a few words… but can grow into something pawsitively amazing. Our lesson today? Conversations open doors to new friendships. That means every time you say‘hi,’ ask a question, or share a laugh—you’re building a bridge. A connection. Maybe even the start of a friendship that could last a lifetime. I learned this when I met someone very different from me… and almost didn’t say a word at all.""It happened on a foggy Tuesday morning. I was at the park with Brooklyn and Teddy. We were playing fetch(well, they were—I was coaching), when I saw someone sitting under a tree. A sleek, quiet cat I’d never seen before. Dark fur. Bright eyes. Not saying a word. Brooklyn barked,‘Go say hi!’ Teddy nodded,‘Make a new friend!’ Olivff(who had just arrived) said,‘Or don’t. It’s your choice.’ I hesitated. What if she didn’t want to talk? What if we had nothing in common? But then I remembered something Dad—always says:‘You don’t have to be the same to connect. You just have to start a conversation.’ So I walked up and said,‘Hey… I’m Monkey. Cool tree spot you’ve got there.’""She looked at me. Paused. Then said,‘Thanks. I’m Luna. You’re the talking cat, right?’ We started chatting. About clouds. About snacks. About why squirrels are so dramatic. And guess what? We had tons in common. We both liked poetry, puddle jumping, and peanut butter on apple slices. One conversation turned into a playdate. One playdate turned into a friendship. That’s when I realized: All it took to open the door to something wonderful… was hello." What We Learned Today🔹A simple conversation can spark a beautiful friendship.🔹You don’t have to be just alike to connect—you just need curiosity and kindness.🔹Saying hello can be the first step toward something great.🔹The more we talk, the more we learn about others—and about ourselves."So here’s my challenge for YOU today: Start a new conversation.✅Say hi to someone new at school or the park.✅Ask a question like‘What’s your favorite snack?’ or‘What’s your superpower?’✅Or invite someone to play or sit with you—just like I did with Luna. Because every friendship starts with a single step—and a little courage to speak. Thanks for tuning in to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! Don’t forget to subscribe, share, and remember—your words can build bridges, open doors, and change lives. One conversation at a time. Until next time, my pawsome pals—stay kind, stay curious, and keep making friends with your heart and your voice. Bye for now!"
