"People’s Communication Styles Are as Unique as Their Personalities" Episode 54

Don Fessenden Season 1 Episode 54

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! 🐾 Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! I’m Monkey, your favorite talking cat, and today’s lesson is something that has helped me become a better teammate, listener, and friend.

Our lesson today? People’s communication styles are as unique as their personalities.

Just like no two tails wag the same way, no two voices, gestures, or messages are delivered quite alike. And once we understand that, everything starts making more sense. Let me tell you about the day I tried to lead a team project and almost turned it into a disaster—because I forgot to listen to how others prefer to speak and share."

"Hey there, my fur-tastic friends! Welcome back to The Monkey the Cat Podcast! Let me tell you about the day I tried to lead a team project and almost turned it into a disaster—because I forgot to listen to how others prefer to speak and share.""We were building a clubhouse out of old boxes and leftover garden wood. Brooklyn barked ideas. Fast and loud. Teddy suggested we write a list. Neatly. In order. Max squawked ten different ideas in ten seconds. Olivff… just quietly picked up a pencil and drew what she imagined. And me? I was trying to run the show.‘Let’s build THIS!’‘Start over HERE!’‘No, no, no—don’t draw, just talk!’ And before I knew it, Brooklyn was pouting, Teddy was correcting me, Max flew off, and Olivff? She gently set her drawing down… and walked away. I flopped to the grass with a sigh. What went wrong? That’s when Mom—walked by and said,‘Monkey, if you only hear the voices that sound like yours, you’ll miss the ones that speak in different ways.’""So I changed my approach.✅I asked Teddy to create the official plan.✅I let Max pitch his ideas in his own wild style.✅I invited Brooklyn to be our cheerleader and muscle.✅And I studied Olivff’s drawing and asked her to lead the design. And guess what? The clubhouse became incredible. Stronger. Smarter. More creative. Because everyone’s way of sharing had a place. That’s when I realized: When you respect someone’s communication style, you’re not just hearing their words—you’re honoring who they are." What We Learned Today🔹Communication isn’t one-size-fits-all.🔹Some people speak with volume, others with visuals.🔹True listening means meeting others where they are.🔹Diversity in how we speak and share makes every group stronger."So here’s my challenge for YOU today: Notice how the people around you communicate.✅Who loves to talk it out?✅Who thinks before speaking?✅Who writes, draws, or moves instead of using words? Try tuning in. Try adapting. Try inviting all voices to the table. Thanks for tuning in to The Monkey the Cat Podcast!
